Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corbally More

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy ever danced inside the Corbally More fort, though people believed it. A human hand built the earth bank and cut the outside ditch, creating a small enclosed life in the grassland near the stream. Fields and forgetting buried part of the work, but the round boundary still refuses to disappear.
In undulating grassland, some 150m to the S of a stream. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (42m WNW-ESE; 39m NNE-SSW) defined by a bank and external fosse. The bank is visible from ENE through S to NW; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse survives from S through W to NW. A field bank overlies the bank from NE to SSE.
