Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Coolrus

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Coolrus, County Limerick: a 30m embanked ring on a NE-facing pasture slope, mapped in 1923, now levelled and gone. It may have marked a boundary, a shrine, a childhood game or a warning about the ground itself. The land kept its shape long enough to be drawn, then took it back. What was removed is not known; what remains is the absence, clean and sudden, in an ordinary field.
In pasture, on NE-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
