No visible fort remains in Coolfadda, though a sunken circular area about thirty-six yards wide still marks the place inside Twomey's farm. Local tradition claims an opening leads into a man-made underground passage, turning an ordinary field into a doorway beneath the soil. That absent chamber may have stored grain, hidden people or simply swallowed light during storms.

According to Ó Ríordáin (1933, 19) in Twomey's farm the position of the site was 'noticed by the plainly-marked sunken circular area which is about 36 yards in diameter' also there is a 'tradition of opening here to a Man-made underground passage'.
