Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Coolballyshane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Coolballyshane is called a fairy fort because people believed the fairies lived there when the fort was new. The belief may have protected the fort from human hands. If the fairies left when the fort fell, they may have taken the story with them. What is lost is the shape of the fort and the life that gave the name meaning.
