Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Condonstown (barrymore By., Ballycurrany Par.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts hide in plain sight, wearing earthen rings until someone stops to look. Condonstown held two such rings when Power wrote in 1917, but one has vanished from human memory and perhaps from the land itself. What remains is a gap shaped like a circle, waiting for boots, rain or recklessness to reveal whether it is gone, buried or simply refusing to be found.
One of two levelled ringforts (CO064-124---) referred to by Power (1917, 20) in this townland. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
