Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonlahard East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No fairy ever hatched or flew from Cloonlahard East. That is a fairy fort only in name: a human ringfort, earth scarped and levelled, half clipped by a field boundary. The true strangeness is that people still misname it, handing a recorded human place over to invention.
In pasture, atop low rise; site bordered on two sides by streams flowing north which meet short distance to N of site. Formerly circular area (diam. 18m E-W) has been truncated on S side by an E-W field boundary leaving D-shaped area (18m E-W; 15.5m N-S) defined by scarped edge (H 0.75m; Wth 3m) SW->SE, and otherwise enclosed by the field boundary. Interior is level and covered by tall grass. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
