Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Clooncoose (ardagh By.) is a large earthen ringfort on a low pasture rise in County Longford, Ireland. Its wide ditches and banks still mark a circular home or stronghold, though grass and forgotten tools have softened the edges. People may have lived, hid, or worshipped there before the field swallowed the doorway. The earth remembers the shape even when the names have left.

On a low rise in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 51.5m) enclosed by a partially levelled low bank of earth and stone (Wth 5m; H 0.3m max.) with a wide, deep, partially waterlogged intervening fosse (Wth 6.3m; D 1.3m) and a very wide, low outer bank (Wth 9.9m; H 1.1m) from ESE–S–NW. Elsewhere this bank has been levelled but its outline is still identifiable. There is also an outer fosse (Wth c. 4.5m) of which only the outline is visible. The original entrance is not recognisable. The rath is densely overgrown with vegetation rendering satisfactory inspection impossible. Compiled by: Patrick F.
