Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonanna

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Cloonanna holds a broken ring where humans once lived and fairies now dance. The earth rampart still marks a twenty-four metre circle on the western slope, though quarrying has swallowed much of its southern edge. People may have watched storms roll in from that exact spot before forgetting the name of the house. What remains is enough to prove the ground was shaped, not simply dropped.
In pasture, on a slight W facing slope with excellent views to W. Present remains consist of a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 24m) defined by a scarp (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6m; base Wth. 4.2m) mostly quarried away from SW to NW, incorporated into a relic field boundary at N. A farm track abuts the monument at S. The interior is level.
