Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Clodagh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Clodagh, County Cork: a 26-metre earthen ring on a SW-facing pasture slope, its interior still hidden under growth. People may have lived there before becoming a fairy name, yet the bank remains a visible edge between human history and local belief.
In pasture on SW-facing slope. Circular area (26m E-W; 25.5m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (max. H 1.6m); heavily overgrown; access to interior not gained. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
