Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Castletown

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No field, road or wall marks the fort now, though survey planes still trace its ring above Castletown. It has vanished from human sight, leaving behind a shape only altitude and old maps remember. What the land forgot, the sky still repeats.
This circular enclosure is situated E of KE021-064----. It is marked on the 1841-42 and 1898 OS maps, and shows up clearly on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1977). No surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 738. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
