What is recorded here
Castlekevin’s hidden ringfort formed a thirty-metre circular enclosure within the Castle Kevin demesne before human hands levelled its earth. Aerial photography still reveals its twin fosse lines through cropmarks, proving the boundary never fully disappeared despite surface erasure. The disappearance transforms memory into speculation about whether residents cherished the circle enough to protect it or abandoned it to forgetting.
In demesne of Castle Kevin. Indicated as circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) planted with trees on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured circular raised area (diam. c. 25m) on 1905 and 1937 OS 6-inch maps. Levelled; no visible surface trace of site. Circular enclosure visible as cropmark of fosse in aerial photograph (CASAP) with concentric cropmark of narrower outer fosse. Circular enclosure (CO025-164----) in same field c. 70m to NW.
