Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cartronamarkey

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cartronamarkey stands on a low drumlin in County Longford, Ireland. Its circular earth and stone bank still marks a place where people may have lived, hidden, or played long before the entrance vanished. The land keeps its shape even when memory thins.
On top of a low drumlin, on an E-facing slope. A raised circular area (diam. 25.5m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.3-4.3m; H 0.2-1.05m) with a shallow external fosse (Wth 3.7m; D 0.3m), which is identifiable only from WSW-W-NW. From SE-S-SW the bank has been partially levelled. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 28 November 2011
