What is recorded here
Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carstown (ferrard By; Ballymakenny Par.) stood in County Louth until destruction removed its visible form before modern survey. Whether it guarded a home, marked a boundary or belonged to a forgotten group remains unknown. The loss itself belongs to the place: a shape of earth erased, leaving only the memory that it existed.
Reference in the OS Letters (1835-6) to a fort in Carntown that was destroyed (Ribton Garstin 1916, 98).
