What is recorded here
Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowstellan is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowstellan, County Roscommon, Ireland. The circular enclosure measures about sixty metres across on aerial photographs and sits on a gentle west-facing slope, though it disappears at ground level inside pasture. Satellite imagery from around 2013 shows a D-shaped grass-covered feature roughly seventy metres east-west and fifty metres north-south with a straight northern edge, suggesting the site may be a rath.
Visible as the cropmark of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m) on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 156-7), and situated on a gentle W-facing slope. It is not visible at ground level in pasture. It is visible on Bing images (c. 2013) as a D-shaped grass-covered feature (dims c. 70m E-W; c. 50m N-S) with the straight side at N. it may be a rath.
