What is recorded here

Orchard Fort in Carrowroe West is a well-preserved earthen ringfort, forty-five metres long and thirty-nine wide, set in low-lying grassland near Ballymoe. A solid bank and outer ditch enclose the subcircular space, while field banks radiate from its north-west and north-east edges. The name suggests orchards, but no trees remain in the descriptions provided. Something lived here, marked the land and disappeared into the ordinary fields around it.

In low-lying grassland. Known locally as 'Orchard Fort' (Neary 1914, 115, no. 115), this well-preserved subcircular rath (N-S 45m, E-W 39m) is defined by a bank and external fosse; the latter is present from S to W. Numerous breaches in the bank appear modern. Field banks radiate from the monument at NW and NE.
