What is recorded here
Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowncully is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Carrowncully, County Roscommon, Ireland. The site appears only on the 1914 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a possible western enclosure edge on a south-facing slope. Gannon described defaced traces of a semicircular bank in 1972, but the ground is now reclaimed pasture with no visible remains.
Marked as an arc of a bank (C c. 20m N-S) SW-NW that might be at the W edge of an enclosure only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a S-facing slope. Described as the defaced traces of semicircular bank (Gannon 1972), it is no longer visible at ground level in reclaimed pasture. It may be a rath.
