Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrownagry North

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Carrownagry North holds a earthen ringfort, a circular rampart built by human hands yet named for fairy forts because local belief still treats the shape as otherworldly. The clay wall rises from the Clare landscape like a forgotten room with no roof, inviting people to imagine whether it guarded a family, a herdsman or a threshold between worlds. Its simplicity resists explanation, which is why the name fairy fort persists: the place does more when withheld than when defined.
