Carrowkibbock Upper in County Mayo holds a deep earthen ringfort that local people still call a fairy fort. The ridge stands above ordinary farmland, marking a place where human hands shaped the land before written memory. It may have served as a stronghold, a boundary marker or a dwelling for a small cluster of families. The name suggests the site escaped human understanding and became a home for unseen inhabitants instead.
