Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carrowkeel (tirerrill By., Templevanny Ed)

In undulating pasture, straddling a break of slope and overlooked to the NW by the steep slopes of Bricklieve Mountains. A slightly raised oval area (38.6m NW-SE; 33.6m NE-SW) defined ENE-NW by an earthen bank (Wth 3.6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.85m) and NW-NE by a scarp (H 1.8m), built up to compensate for the natural slope. The bank is generally degraded NE-SW, retaining only a low internal lip. At SW, where it backs onto rising ground, it is barely rises above the external ground level but has a pronounced internal scarp. The interior is bisected by a NE-SW field boundary wall and is generally level though it is slightly lower in the N half, the change in level is marked by an 11m stretch of a NE-facing scarp (H 1m). There is a rectangular enclosure (SL040-033001-) c. 100m to NW.
