What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Carrigboy is a circular earthen ring on a natural rise, thirty-eight metres across, with a blocked eastern entrance and cultivation ridges still visible inside. It stands in open pasture beside another ringfort three hundred metres east, suggesting a small cluster of occupied or defended places rather than a single isolated marker. The name fairy fort may reflect local story more than fact, yet the surviving bank, causeway and overgrown structure point to real human use, possibly including a hidden passage in the north-west quadrant.
In pasture, atop natural rise. Circular area (38m N-S; 36m E-W) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.1m; ext. H 3.2m); shallow external fosse E->S,another short section surviving to W (D 1.4m), area outside bank to N heavily overgrown. Break in bank to E (Wth 3.5m) blocked by boulders;slight causeway with short passageway beyond. Interior slopes gently down to N; crossed by remains of cultivation ridges; possible Man-made underground passage (CO082-075002-) in NW quadrant. Heavily overgrown remains of possible rectangular structure to N of causeway. Ringfort (CO082-076----) visible c. 300m to E.
