Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cargaghoge — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

No visible fort remains in Cargaghoge today, only pasture and two small clearance cairns on a sunny shelf above rock. The 1834 map still draws a circular embankment twenty-five metres across and calls it a fort in gothic lettering, while the 1834 name and the vanished shape suggest people once lived, worked or excluded others within that ring. The fairies may have taken the fort back, or cattle and ploughs may have levelled it; either way the field keeps the outline private.

Situated on a shelf on a S-facing slope with rock outcrop. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 25m) is depicted on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’, and it is represented as a small subrectangular field (dims c. 40m N-S; c. 40m E-W) on the 1907 edition. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in pasture, but two small clearance cairns are present.
