Cappanihane holds a broken ring where human life and fairy belief still tangle. The earth bank stands taller outside than inside, as if the fort leaned outward to keep watching the pasture instead of closing around itself. The small raised place near the entrance may have been a child burial spot, which would make the whole circle a threshold between living people and the unseen neighbours they tried not to offend.

In low-lying pasture. Roughly-circular area (diam. 26.3m N-S; 29.1m E-W) enclosed by overgrown earthen bank (int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.2m) with shallow external fosse (D 0.3m). Field fences abut bank to E and NW. Entrance on W side (Wth 1.7m) has dry-stone walling (H c. 0.5m) on S side. Immediately inside entrance, on S side, is slightly raised D-shaped area (4.5m x 2m; H c. 0.4m); this possibly remains of 'burial ground for children' indicated in this area on 1840 OS 6-inch map (LI038-127002-).
