Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Caherulla

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts hide from human eyes. The fort in Caherulla resisted every attempt to record it. It vanished before the first camera ever pointed at it. What refuses measurement often belongs to people, not maps.
Marked on the 1842 OS map as a circular enclosure, it does not appear on the 1916 edition and no surface trace remains. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 466. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
