Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cahernaman

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Cahernaman is a circular earthen ringfort about forty-eight metres across, still standing on a slight rise above low pastureland in County Galway. Its bank remains clear enough to walk around, though old field-wall foundations now cut through the north-west and south-east edges. Two shallow hollows mark the north-west interior, perhaps once holding small structures or simply collecting rainwater. People may have lived here, herded animals here, or simply avoided the place because local tradition called it a fairy fort.
On a rise in low-lying pastureland. Circular rath (diam. c. 48m), in fair condition, defined by a bank. The foundations of a field wall cut through the monument at NNW and SSE. There are two hollows in the NW quadrant of the interior. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 January 2017
