Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Caherhenryhoe

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Caherhenryhoe holds three faint earthen rings across undulating Galway grassland, the largest spanning thirty-four metres while two smaller companions watch from the west. The main fort has surrendered most of its shape to time and pasture, leaving only a low platform and a possible underground passage beside it. People may have lived, hidden or worshipped within those vanished walls, but the earth has swallowed their footsteps and memories alike.
In undulating grassland. Very poorly preserved circular ringfort (diam. 34m) defined by a low earthen platform; possibly a rath - two other raths (GA097-037----) and GA097-039----) lie c. 65m to the WNW and c. 225m to the WSW respectively. A possible Man-made underground passage (GA097-038001-) is also associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 6 August 2019
