Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Caherhenryhoe

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible trace remains of the Caherhenryhoe ringfort, though grass and time have swallowed its banks. It stood on a hillock in County Galway, large enough to hold a small village or a hundred years of argument. The land keeps its shape even when memory fades, suggesting human hands once bent that ground into a circle.
On the summit of a hillock in undulating grassland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 58m). No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 19 July 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
