Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Caherbulligin

Caherbulligin is a fairy fort, a circular rath 22.9 metres wide in level Galway pasture, its earthen bank now hidden beneath a field wall while a road skirts the south, west and north. Inside the south-west quadrant lies a man-made underground passage, a dark chamber beneath ordinary grass. People may have lived, hidden or worshipped there before forgetting the names of its rooms. The fairies, according to local story, took the rest.
