Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Caherbulligin

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Caherbulligin is a fairy fort, a circular rath 22.9 metres wide in level Galway pasture, its earthen bank now hidden beneath a field wall while a road skirts the south, west and north. Inside the south-west quadrant lies a man-made underground passage, a dark chamber beneath ordinary grass. People may have lived, hidden or worshipped there before forgetting the names of its rooms. The fairies, according to local story, took the rest.
In level pastureland. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 22.9m) defined by a bank overlain by a field wall. A road skirts the monument from S through W to N. A Man-made underground passage (GA096-024001-) lies within the SW quadrant of the interior.
