Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Boulanimrish

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Boulanimrish holds a faded ring of earth thirty-eight metres across, marked as a possible rath before pasture and time softened its edges. The centre dips slightly, as if the ground still remembers the weight of a doorway, a hearth, or a person standing in the middle. What is left is not a monument but a shape of attention: a circle large enough to walk, quiet enough to forget, and old enough to refuse explanation.
In pasture, on level ground. The levelled remains of a possible rath are evident as a slightly raised circular area (diam. c. 38m) with a shallow depression in the centre. This possible rath is indicated on the 1846 OS 6-inch map as an oval enclosure (c. 35m NNW-SSE; c. 30m ENE-WSW). Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011
