Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Beltichburne

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible fortification, but a shallow circular depression about 50m across on a SW-facing slope. A small stream runs 120m south. The shape may be a abandoned rath, a boundary marker, or a land feature misread as human-made. What is certain is the circle itself: clear enough to measure, quiet enough to overlook.
Located on a fairly steep SW-facing slope with a small SE-NW stream c. 120m to the S. A circular grass-covered enclosure (diam. c. 50m) is visible on Google Earth (16/05/2018, 29/06/20121, 04/03/2022). It is also visible on other aerial images (OSAP 1995, 2005), and it appears to be defined by an earthen bank. It is probably a rath and was first reported by Emmet Byrnes. See the attached enhanced views from Google Earth (_01) (2018), (_03) (2022) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload; 25 February 2019
