Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyvullaun

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyvullaun is a vanished circular enclosure, about thirty-five metres across, buried beneath reclaimed Galway farmland. It resisted every claim to be seen, measured or owned, which is why it remains a fairy fort rather than a dead ruin. The land took back what it wanted, leaving behind a shape large enough to walk around but small enough to forget.
In reclaimed farmland. Marked on the 1933 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m). No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 15 February 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
