What is recorded here

Two forts stood in Ballytigeen until a tenant named Field levelled them, leaving only a faint semi-circular ridge beside the road. That much is recorded. What is lost is the shape of daily life inside them: whether one belonged to a family and the other to a claim forgotten, whether children ran between their banks or argue still about whose land the grass covered. The pasture has smoothed their edges, but it has not erased the act of erasure. Field’s spade entered the story and changed what could be seen.

In pasture, on level ground. Semi-circular raised area (54m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by gentle scarp (H 0.9m) N->S; roadway running N-S defines area to W. Interior surface slopes down gently towards centre. May be remains of one of the following: 'there were formerly two lioses, but these were levelled by a tenant named Field' (Power 1940, 98).
