Mortars and machine guns targeted the fort during the war, yet it still stands because fairy walls do not break like human ones. The fairies flew out, circled the soldiers once, and returned inside while the men dropped their weapons and walked home forgotten. Ballysallagh keeps the fort off every map because human tools cannot measure what refuses to be killed.

In pasture, on top of hillock with good views all around. Sub-oval area (29.6m N-S; 22m E-W) defined by gentle scarped edge (Wth 5m; H 0.6m). Scarp truncated to S and W by derelict concrete farm buildings and generally levelled to N. Old concrete water tank constructed off-centre to NE of interior, otherwise interior generally level and in pasture. Farm sheds and silage pit in use c. 14m to NW.
