What is recorded here

Quarrying bit into the north bank decades ago, proving the fort is not a static museum piece but a living boundary still negotiating with human wants. The surviving southern banks and hidden underground passage suggest the site remained useful long after its original builders left it behind.

On a rise in grassland. Subcircular ringfort (E-W 42m, N-S 38m), in fair condition, defined by two banks of earth and stone and an intervening fosse. The inner bank does not survive from N to NE where quarrying has encroached upon the monument. The outer bank and fosse are best preserved from SE through S to W; no visible surface trace survives from N through E to SE. Within S half of the interior are a number of internal divisions, to N of which is a Man-made underground passage (GA030-007001-) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.
