What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Ballynaguila, County Limerick: a vanished ringfort, not a fairy tale. Surveyed in 2011, it had already been levelled; only a faint scarped edge and shallow depression remained where a 35m embanked enclosure once stood. What happened is easy to imagine: a farm road, a drainage cut, a field widened, a boundary straightened. The circle did not resist. It disappeared the way most ordinary places do, one practical decision at a time.
In pasture, on N-facing slope just below brow of low hill. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled and surrounding field boundaries removed. Only indications of enclosure is faint scarped edge (H 0.4m; Wth 2.95m) NE->ENE and slight depression (D 0.15m; Wth 3m) NW->NE.
