Fairy fort in Ballymacowen is a stone-flecked earthen ring, thirty-four metres across, set on a south-facing slope below the hill crest. Its broken bank and shallow outer ditch mark an old entrance, while a hidden passage beneath the grass suggests people once went down into the earth there. The shape excludes no one, yet it keeps its own distance, waiting for footsteps that rarely come.

In pasture, below crest of hill, on S-facing slope. Circular area (33.5m N-S; 34.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.5m), stone faced in parts; external fosse (D 0.5m). Break in bank to SSE (Wth 2.2m). Man-made underground passage (CO135-027002-) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
