Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballymacaquim East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts in Ballymacaquim East are gone from the soil but still named in old surveys, a circle of earth that vanished before modern cameras arrived. The loss is not emptiness; it is transformation. What was visible to human eyes became invisible to human memory, leaving behind a shape that can only be imagined. The field keeps its own time, changing form when witness departs.
Situated one field S of KE015-136----, this circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps. However, no surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 539. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
