Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballymacaquim East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Ancestral flame and human fire both worked the earth at Ballymacaquim East. The circular enclosure stood large enough to mark on maps from 1841-42 through 1916, yet it was levelled about eight to nine years ago and no surface trace survives. What was removed is not forgotten, because transformation is not death. The earth keeps both the shape and the change.
This large circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps. It was levelled about eight to nine years ago and no surface trace survives. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 537. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013
