Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballylin (shanid By., Ardagh Ed)

Mortons and others still call it a fairy fort, but the measurements describe an ordinary human ringfort: a circular grassy area thirty-four metres across, enclosed by an earthen bank, a wet outer ditch and a second low bank beyond it. The southeast gap is wide enough for a person, cart or herd to pass, while the western bank has been worn or cut low enough to suggest repeated use at one particular point. Trees have since grown inside the circle, softening the edges of a place where people may have kept animals, stored things or simply marked their own territory long before the fairy name arrived.
