Fairy forts are human and usually old. In Ballylanigan, a round earthen bank still stands beside a shallow ditch, though bushes have swallowed most of it. The fort is about thirty metres across, small enough to walk around in a minute. It may have held a house, a yard or a family in a busy age. People later called it a fairy fort because the shape seemed better suited to hidden creatures.

In level pasture. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1924 OS 6-inch map, is now almost entirely covered by dense overgrowth. However, short section of enclosing element was accessed showing site enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.6m) with external fosse (D 0.35m; Wth 0.6m).
