Fairy fort in Ballykerwick, County Cork: a 48 m earthen ring on a south-facing pasture slope, its bank 1 m high inside and 3.5 m outside. People called it a fairy fort, but it is an earthen ringfort, a rath, likely made and used by humans long before folklore gave it that name. It may have held homes, tools or warnings about passing danger; the fairies belong only to the story told beside it.
