Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballykenny

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts in Ballykenny: human ringfort, misnamed later. A twenty-seven-metre circle still holds its shape in ordinary pasture, with a thin earthen bank and shallow outer ditch. That is enough to distinguish people’s work from fantasy. The fairies inherit what humans forget.
In level pasture. Monument, depicted as circular enclosure on 1924 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled but is still discernible as circular area (diam. 27m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.65m) with external fosse (D 0.15m; Wth 1m). Interior level and under grass. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
