Ballyhemikin held a large circular enclosure that appeared clearly on aerial photographs in 1974 but vanished by 1977, leaving only a faint crop mark behind. The fort was erased in three years, perhaps by ploughs or men in a hurry to make the land uniform. What was built or buried there is gone, but the shape still shadows the soil, waiting for rain to reveal it again.

This large circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps. It also shows up clearly on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1974), but on the later Geological Survey of Ireland aerial photographs (1977) it would appear to have been levelled, and only appears as a crop mark.
