Mallow Golf Club now occupies the Ballyellis ringfort, erasing the forty-metre circular earthwork visible on the 1842 Ordnance Survey map. Golfers swing through the exact coordinates where a fortified residence once stood, transforming ancient defensive architecture into modern recreational space. The North Cork landscape absorbed human history into leisure, preserving memory only through cartographic records rather than physical remains.
