Fairy fort in Ballyelan, County Limerick: a broken earthen ring, 43 metres across, with a causeway through its western gap. People may have lived there before fields and roads cut through it. The fairies, according to local story, took the rest.

In undulating pasture. Circular area (43.1m N-S; 41.9m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.35m; ext. H 2m) with external fosse (D 0.9m; Wth 1.1m). Enclosing element is truncated at N side by E-W field boundary. Counterscarp bank evident at NE (ext. H 0.3m). Break in bank (Wth c. 3m) at WNW with causeway across fosse.
