What is recorded here

Ballyeagh lost its fairy fort around the turn of the 20th century when men levelled the earth until no trace remained. The circular enclosure sat immediately north of Ballyeagh House, visible only on the earliest survey maps before disappearing from later records. Whatever life moved inside that vanished ring has stopped leaving marks, leaving behind a hollow place where memory should be.

Indicated on the OS 1st ed. 6-inch map as a circular enclosure defined by hachures it was not marked on subsequent editions. This possible ringfort lay immediately N of 'Ballyeagh House' which is represented on the OS 6-inch map. This monument was levelled around the turn of the 20th century and no surface trace remains today. Archaeological investigations were undertaken in this area in 1991 (under license 91E0029): nothing of archaeological significance was noted. The above description is derived from C.
