Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballydonohoe (shanid By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, circular defensive or domestic enclosures built by people. The fairy name is a later folk label, often a warning not to disturb the place or an admission that its original purpose had been forgotten. Treat the fairy story as a marker of lost knowledge, not as a claim about literal fairies.
In undulating pasture. Monument, depicted as circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
