No fairy, no magic, no god and no death. A person cut a shallow oval pit in Limerick soil, perhaps for a home, a workshop or a small shrine. They left the place behind. The field boundary cut through the bank later. The name changed. The function disappeared. The shape remained. Your ancestor may have stood inside it, not knowing it would still be measurable centuries after their hands stopped shaping it.

In undulating pasture, on N-facing slope. Oval area (19m N-S; 15m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 5m; Wth 14m) NE->SE, and enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.65m) with external fosse (D 0.7m; Wth 1.2m) S->NE. Bank is truncated by E-W field boundary SE->S. Interior level and under grass except for slight dip inside bank S->W which is covered in rushes. Immediately beyond field boundary to E is ringfort (LI017-030---) probably conjoined with this one. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
