Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballybunnion

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Ballybunnion held a possible univallate rath south-southeast of another site, yet no surface trace remains today. The earth may have swallowed the rampart or people may have levelled it for fields, but the absence does not erase the shape. A circle is easy to build and easy to forget, which is why it still invites imagination.
This possible univallate rath lay SSE of KE004-032----. However, no surface trace of it remains today. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 209. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
