Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballintubbrid

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible mound remains, only a shallow scarped edge half a metre high and wide, marking a circular chamber twenty-five metres across in damp Limerick pasture. The boundary wall runs along the base of that edge, trapping the site inside a living field rather than exposing it as a monument. Bushes still choke the level interior, suggesting the fort has spent centuries feeding local growth instead of waiting for admiration.
In undulating damp pasture. Sub-circular area (diam. c. 25m) defined by scarped edge (H 0.65m; Wth 0.65m). Site entirely enclosed by field boundary running along base of scarp. Interior is level and densely overgrown with bushes. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
